What are screw piles?
Helical Screw pile is another name for helical pile. The pile consists of a galvanized steel shaft. Depending on the application, it can have 2 or more helix plates that are welded to the shaft to form a screw. An excavator is used to install the screw pile into the ground. The torque is measured as it turns the pile into the soil. The initial pile used is called the lead. If it needs to go deeper than the lead, an extension is added to the lead pile. The final depth is achieved when the screw pile hits stable soil and has met the required torque capacity to complete the process.
